Marres – Maastricht

Delicious and affordable.

Located in the Capucijnenstraat, Marres is hidden behind a row of houses and only noticeable if known! We therefore want to call your attention to this delicate and unique place, which entails a restaurant, a museum, a bookstore and a beautiful garden, so the pleasure can be spread and shared. Marres, the ‘Centre of Contemporary Culture’, is situated in a beautiful villa, which displays various exhibitions, but, the house as such is already worthy to visit regardless of the exhibition. Marres additionally offers the Marres Kitchen, which is attached to the Villa and hereby may make use of the splendid garden. The guests therefore have the possibility to visit the exhibition/ house, and its book store (Marres books) and hereafter take a break for a delicious lunch. Depending on Maastricht’s great and never rainy weather, you may decide to either sit inside or enjoy your meal in the lovely garden. Marres kitchen offers various vegetarian and Mediterranean dishes, for instance, a compilation of Anti Pasti, Falafel, Salads and a plethora of dips, such as Hummus, Mutabal and Baba Ghanoush. The food at Marres kitchen is prepared by a Syrian, Maher Al Sabbagh, who memorized his grandmother’s cooking secrets from an early age onwards. He further worked in kitchens all over the world, such as Damascus, Beirut, Amman, Isfahan, Cairo, Rome, Sicily, Milan and recently in Rotterdam. Thus, Al Sabbagh combined all his knowledge and experiences, which you may taste the next time you stop by!
